SUPPORTING ICTS FOR AGRIBUSINESSES DEVELOPMENT IN UGANDA

With support of 800 million Uganda shillings, the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) has spear headed the digitalization process of NUCAFE top implement a project; “Supporting ICTs for agribusinesses development in Uganda.” 

The project focusing in strengthening the business development of the National Union of Coffee Agribusinesses and Farm Enterprises (NUCAFE) and special emphasis on digitalisation through use of high definition multispectral location images to provide individual farm maps to the profiled farmers.

Additional farmers profiled under the EU supported project Enhancing Africa Green Economy through Eco Geographical Indication for Coffee ENV/2017/391-382 (GI) and farmers from other areas will be provided with the individual farm maps. The activity is focussing on sensitizing 18,000 coffee farmers from 60 Coffee Farmers Associations/ Cooperatives. 

These will be trained in value chain development and access to finance where 30 cooperatives are to be linked to financial institution to access 600 million Uganda shillings to increase coffee bulking and marketing at association level.
